Hidden within a canopy of oak and beech trees near Southleigh, Blackbury Camp is an Iron Age hillfort managed by English Heritage. Built in the 4th century BC, this site has an interesting past!
Unlike the exposed peaks typical of many hillforts, Blackbury offers a sheltered, “secret” atmosphere where nature is abundant.
Famous for its stunning spring display, where the ramparts and ditches are blanketed in a sea of vibrant bluebells. This site is also great for busy summer days when you want to get away from the crowds.
There are no refreshments along the route.
It’s within a wooded area which can be uneven, though the middle part is fairly flat. During heavy rainfall, especially in winter, it can get very muddy.
Latest public transport availability can be planned via Traveline’s website.
Parking is available at the entrance for free during daylight hours. Overnight camping is not permitted.
Welcome, under close control.
