We’re hoping to create three new routes linking the South West Coast Path with the East Devon Way. The routes will be designed to integrate both human and ecological needs, ensuring they are accessible to people, while providing important habitat for nature.
This project has been made possible thanks to a £9,995 grant from National Trails UK (NTUK). Learn more about the NTUK.
The Connecting Coast and Countryside project will identify and map opportunities to restore and expand a connected mosaic of sunny, flower-rich meadows and coastal scrub. This will benefit species listed on the Devon Local Nature Recovery Strategy and emerging East Devon Nature Recovery Plan.
We will extend the focus inland to identify opportunities for creating and managing a seamless network of healthy woodlands, hedgerows, and field edges. This will support key species on the East Devon National Landscape Special Species list.
Late 2025: We’re exploring the feasibility of various routes and beginning to draft some potential routes
Early 2026: We’re bringing the local communities into the conversation through photo-trails, guided walks, pop-ups to understand how they currently use – or wish to use – these spaces.
March 2026: Time to bring it all together. We’ll be collating all the information, pinpointing opportunities for nature interventions, mapping, estimating costing for proposed works. This will be our blueprint for the next stage which will be delivery.
